Vital Communities is a unique action research project. It aims to demonstrate the impact of the arts upon individual and community development and to investigate whether the arts have a positive impact on the aspirations, achievement and attitudes of specific communities across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
This boy’s dance project was hosted by Hampshire dance with support from the Arts Council and Hampshire district council. Base dance was commissioned to create a short dance performance work which integrated motion capture technology and ‘live’ choreography together.
During a 4 day residency the participants (aged 11 – 18 yrs) learnt and created movements which were then recorded in a motion capture rig on the 4th day at Access MoCap (based at Bournemouth University). Each recorded sequence was animated into different characters such as a Granddad, wood figure and clothes.
An additional weekend was used to create the show mixing the two dimensions together. The piece is currently touring around Hampshire.
